Calling all emerging artists: Get paid & generate volunteer hours! 5th Edmonton Timeraiser

The Call to Artists for Edmonton’s 5th Timeraiser is now open. We are looking to purchase artwork from local, emerging artists to help inspire participants in Edmonton to donate their time in support of great causes. Artwork will be in part selected by our a volunteer jury panel from the Edmonton Art Community.Artwork will be displayed in the offices and boardrooms of our corporate partners and in community spaces for 12 months while participants complete their pledge.
There is no submission fee associated with this call.

What is Timeraiser?

The Timeraiser is a silent art auction with a twist. Instead of bidding money, participants bid volunteer time to agencies that need their skills and energy.  We buy all artwork at fair market value and auction it off on the night of the Timeraiser. The 4th Edmonton Timeraiser is October 11th 2012 at the Transalta Arts Barn. Successful auction bidders have 12 months to complete their volunteer pledge. When they do, they bring the artwork home as a reminder of their goodwill.To date, the Timeraiser has generated 100,000 volunteer hours and invested $600,000 in the careers of emerging Canadian artists.

Submission Guidelines:
•    Emerging or mid-career Edmonton-area artists will be given preference
•    Submissions can only be made online at http://timeraiser.slideroom.com/
•    Successful artists will be notified via email in August
•    You set the price of the artwork submitted, up to $1000

Our vision for the Timeraiser is to make it the most memorable, engaging and impactful civic engagement program in the country. Our mission is to:

  1. Promote civic engagement amongst Canadians
    in the early stages of their careers
  2. Help volunteer agencies find the skilled people
    their organizations need
  3. Improve the experience of bringing people to causes
    and causes to people
A Brief Timeraiser History
Timeraiser was conceptualized in 2002 in response to a group of friends wondering how it could be easier to find meaningful, relevant volunteer opportunities.National expansion of the program began in 2006 with the 1st Calgary Timeraiser. A strategy was then developed for further growth with 2 cities added in 2008 – Vancouver and Ottawa – and an additional 2 in 2009 – Hamilton and Edmonton. We plan to reach 10 cities by 2012 – including Montreal and Halifax.This expansion was conceptualized with manageable, meaningful growth being a priority – how to grow rather than why to grow.  The focus remained on nurturing vital local partnerships, engaging enthusiastic and skilled local volunteers while going deeper into existing cities.  We have been able to incorporate our experiences from each city to empower local teams of volunteers, building on our collective knowledge and skills.  Our experience has been that the Timeraiser’s success is directly linked fostering partnerships with local organizations and empowering local volunteers with the tools, information and opportunity to support to the program.
